REGISTRATIONS AND USEFULL
ADDRESSES
This
technical note has been drawn up to assist members and prospective entrants to
pest control in complying with the more pertinent statutory requirements of our
industry. This note should not be relied on as legal advice; specific guidance
on any particular matter is best obtained by approaching the department
concerned and requesting a directive.
Registrations required are as
follows:
1.
The
Registrar: Act 36 of 1947, Private Bag X343, Pretoria, 0001: Tel: (012) 319 7306. Any commercial application of a registered
agricultural remedy (virtually all pesticides) may only be carried out strictly
in accordance with the instructions contained on the label and applied under the direct
(on site) supervision of a suitably registered pest control operator.
2.
Ascertain
your local licensing requirements with your local authority. Some local
authorities require you to register your chemical storage area, display the
address of your office on your vehicles etc.
Should you have any employees,
or even be a company or close corporation without any
employees@, you may require the following registrations:

Where your turnover exceeds,
or is expected to exceed, R500 000.00 per annum, you require
the following registration:

Please note that should you
believe you are not required to obtain any registrations under items 2 - 8 it
is advisable to request a directive from the relevant department providing an
exemption from registration. This will ensure you suffer no loss or penalty for
unwittingly contravening regulations. Unfortunately, ignorance of the law is no
defence.

Membership
of the South African Pest Control
Association is voluntary, but may be a requirement from some of your potential
customers. Membership shows your clients you are serious about your business,
subscribe to ethical practices, and support the advancement of your industry.
